John Harman is one of New Zealand’s most experienced breast surgeons. In 1993 he founded St Marks Breast Centre to deliver the most comprehensive breast health service in New Zealand. Today the St Marks Group is a leading advocate of women’s health issues in New Zealand.
In 1999 John was one of a team who successfully lobbied the New Zealand Government to set up a nationwide breast cancer screening programme. Also in 1999, he was awarded entrepreneur of the year for the service industry, a nationwide award presented by Ernst & Young in recognition of services to the community.
John is the founding trustee of the Breast Cancer Research Trust. He is also a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Breast Section, the American Breast Society and the International Breast Cancer Study Group. John has written and lectured widely on many aspects of breast surgery, including cancer surgery, breast reconstruction, reduction and augmentation.
